Frequently asked questions
What is EMDR used for?
EMDR is an amazing protocol that is used to treat trauma, but it honestly can be used to treat addiction or really anything. For more specifics: CLICK HERE
Is it hypnosis?
No, you're completely aware and conscious. You're simply just recalling events or a singular event that you're already familiar with. Just observing memories from a different stance in simply because of the stimulation you're getting with these tappers, you're able to transform the way you feel about that event and the way you feel about yourself.
How long does the positive effect last?
Forever, or until something similar happens.
Will I remember memories I don’t already have an awareness of (repressed or otherwise)?
Likely no. The mind doesn’t always store information correctly and it often has “gaps”. Also, some memories can only be recalled when an individual is in the same state they were in when their incident occurred (i.e. being intoxicated) Being in the same state will trigger “flooding” or recalling of information.
Can you do EMDR virtually?
Yes, via FaceTime or Zoom.
Why does it work?
The bilateral activity allows the left and right hemisphere of the brain to be connected and communicating. Normally we are in one side of our brain and even then we are using just a small portion of our brain. When we activate both hemispheres, this is how we release the physical and emotional component to a memory. This is how we release negative symptoms associated with an event. We do this naturally every time we sleep. Our eyes shuffling during REM sleep is how our brain naturally consolidates information being accumulated in our brain throughout the day and moves it to the back left side of our brain where our memories live. Essentially trauma and stress are files too big to download when we're sleeping, if we're sleeping. This is how we force our body to process the event and release the traumatic responses that come with the memory.

Do you accept insurance?
Sorry no. Insurance companies require me to share a lot of personal information about you, with them. I honestly don’t find it ethical. Also, insurance companies drive what treatment looks like, not necessarily what’s best for you.
If ability to pay is a factor, I do have sliding scale rates for clients.
